Released on 29th April 2022, Truth & Soul is the first album Michelle David & The True-tones will release under their new name.
After the release of five critically acclaimed gospel-infused albums under the name Michelle David & The Gospel Sessions, an Edison nomination (the Dutch Grammy) and numerous TV performances, the Netherlands-based band was on the boards of 'NOS Studio Sport' and ‘NPO1', invited to accompany the daily TV show with music during the Winter Olympics 2022 - all of this even before the release of a new album.
That being said, the past few years have rendered further personal development and awareness of who Michelle David & The True-tones are. We know them as a band that makes every show a soul spectacle with their unique gospel combined with soul, blues, jazz and Afrobeat. Now, with a new self-released album 'Truth & Soul’ released on 29th April (distributed by the famous Dutch label Rush Hour Records) they have expanded their musical horizon even more; dreamy indie-soul with a heavy ‘70s vibe mixed with Brazilian flavours and African rhythms.
''When there was talk of a new album, I was a little worried. I didn't think I had anything else to say; especially since nothing dramatic was happening in my current life. But again, the honesty of the music spoke to me and positivity became the angle. I have never felt so free. When the guys agreed to sit down without a rehearsal and sing/record whatever came to mind for the song Wait... so much beauty emerged. A personal highlight.
“I really appreciate how much they trusted me”, says Michelle.
Teaming up with French artist / graphic designer Jean Mosambi to create the artwork for the album, Truth & Soul also contains particularly personal duets with Lilian Vieira and Dobet Gnahoré, both well known for their extraordinary musical talent. “Knowing who we are enables us to connect even more with those around us”, says Michelle.
The album’s first single 'You Can Make It' features Grammy winner Dobet Gnahoré. Hailing from Côte d’Ivoire, Dobet Gnahoré is one of Africa’s hottest and most beloved artists. Michelle says, “The lyrics are affirmations that should be on REPEAT. In times such as these we need to know we CAN AND WILL MAKE IT!”

Brazilian/Dutch singer Lílian Vieira, known for her work with Zuco 103, can be heard on the song 'Better'. Michelle said, “This was one of the first lyrics that popped out of my mouth, not knowing that Lillian was also going through her own personal reconnection to self.”

With these special collaborations, Michelle David & The True-tones have yet another beautiful album to be added to the list. Previous single ‘Leave It There’ could count on airplay from the French radio station FIP; who have always supported and praised Michelle David & The True-tones’ music. Jazz Radio and La Grosse Radio have several times expressed their support for the band .
This year, the band will embark on a large club tour across Europe, including a UK debut show at London’s Jazz Café on Friday 6th May.
