NORTH EAST’S BUZZ BAND STRUT THEIR STUFF ON DEBUT ALBUM

Following the success of debut single ‘Poolie Strut’ and a growing reputation on the UK’s live scene, Hartlepool collective The Jar Family will launch their debut L.P., ‘The Jar Family Album’, on June 25th 2012.

As the band look to build on UK tour dates opening for the likes of Alabama 3 and Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Craddock, The Jar Family album will be released in the middle of a busy run of tour dates and festival appearances, which include dates supporting The Charlatans and Babyshambles’ Mik Whitnall and Drew McConnell.

Joining forces two years ago, singer-songwriters Max Bianco, Dali, Al Devon, Richie Docherty, Chris Hooks and former Squeeze bassist Keith Wilkinson formed The Jar Family and quickly gained a loyal fan-base in the North East following a series of sell-out live shows and the release of their debut release, the 'Livingston Studio EP', in July 2010.

Armed with an increasing sense of optimism, the band hijacked a couple of caravans and set-up ‘Camp Jar’ on a patch of deserted farmland in north-west Essex to begin songwriting sessions for the band’s debut album - and there they stayed for eight-months, writing over three albums-worth of material.

Having amassed a sizeable collection of  songs, the band decamped to the seminal Sawmill Studio to record ‘The Jar Family Album’ in June 2011, but not before adding the in-demand Kerry 'jubjub' Edwards on Cajon to complete the 7-piece line-up. Produced by Keith Wilkinson, the album was then mixed by the legendary John Cornfield (Muse, Supergrass, Razorlight, Oasis, Athlete).

The Jar Family’s forward momentum continued in August 2011 when they performed at the celebrated Camp Acoustic at the Hop Farm Festival to coincide with the release of their debut single ‘Poolie Strut’, a song described by the band as “an urban romance about a raggy lad from the council estates of Hartlepool who somehow charms a well-to-do girl without even trying – she just loves his ‘Poolie Strut.”

‘Poolie Strut’ quickly became the most requested song in Radio Hartlepool’s history and, subsequently, was picked up by Hartlepool United Football Club, who have played the track at every home match since, resulting in the song now being chanted on the terraces by the home faithful.

With its accompanying video filmed during the recording sessions at Sawmill Studios, November 2011 saw the release of the band’s second single ‘In For A Penny’, which coincided with UK tour dates supporting the infamous Alabama 3. The tour was a huge success, with The Jar Family winning new fans across the country in the process.

As both singles garnered favourable reviews from the UK’s music press, it was The Crack magazine’s description of The Jar Family’s sound as “the aural equivalent of real ale” that brought The Jar family to the attention of the Greene King Brewery, who have since invited the band to play a series of soon-to-be-announced concerts at selected ‘Beerhouse’ venues across the country.

These dates will be added to 25 live dates and festival appearances already confirmed across the UK throughout spring and summer 2012 to promote the release of the band’s debut album ‘The Jar Family Album’.
