GET INTO BED WITH JOE CANG

Following the success of last year’s radio hit ‘Make Love’, Joe Cang returns to the spotlight with his long-awaited new album, ‘Bed’.

Encapsulating the London-born singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s joie de vivre, the first single to be taken from the album, ‘Make Love’, became a firm favourite at BBC Radio 2. After being playlisted for five weeks, Chris Evans drew comparisons with the likes of Paulo Nutini and Amy Winehouse, with Joe’s life-affirming brand of “new music that sounds like old music” winning him fans all over the UK.

Joe recorded ‘Bed’ with Matteo Saggese (Il Divo, Haley Westerna, Zucchero) and John Cohen at Terry Britten’s vintage State of The Ark studios in London. The album was then mixed by the legendary Jerry Boys (Buena Vista Social Club, R.E.M., amongst many others).

The result? A stunning collection of observations of life and love from one of the UK’s best kept songwriting secrets, each showcasing Joe’s distinctive, rich vocals over his unique blend of new classic jazz, blues & soul.

Though many people will have only discovered Joe after hearing ‘Make Love’ on the airwaves, Joe has been playing music for as long as he can remember.

His first gig was at the Camden’s Dublin Castle, where the support act were a band called Madness. While Camden’s ‘Nutty Boys’ would go on to become one of the UK’s biggest bands, Joe began to forge a reputation on the UK’s live circuit as one of the top bass players, playing with South Africa’s Dudu Pukwana amongst others and eventually joining Scritti Politti, whilst cutting his recording teeth working with Traffic’s legendry mentor, Reebop Kwaku Baah.

After Reebop’s untimely death, Joe went back on the road working as a bassist with Ian Dury, Desmond Dekker and Kintone whilst nurturing a burning desire to record an album of his own material.

He released his debut album, ‘Navigator’, after being signed by Clive Davis to Arista records. As a highly acclaimed piece of work it served to raise Joe’s profile yet further and confirmed his move from the bass to the microphone.

In between touring, Joe found himself back in the studio working with Aswad, with whom he wrote four tracks on their platinum album "Rise & Shine", including the multimillion-seller, "Shine".

Joe has since recorded and written for K.T Tunstall, Hall & Oates, Hugh Masakela, Bheki Musaleku, Marianne Faithfull (with whom Joe toured with throughout 2009) and a pre X-Factor Leona Lewis, who Joe worked with extensively.

It may have taken him a while, but in ‘Bed’ Joe Cang has finally made the album he has always wanted to – and it’s been worth the wait.

With new single ‘Hot Margaritas’ released on March 28th and tours being scheduled for both the UK and Continental Europe during the summer 2011, Joe Cang will be available for interview.
