UK DEBUT SINGLE FROM IRELAND’S RISING STAR
“ODi proves that an artist delivering musical honesty can say more with her voice and guitar than an orchestra with a bank of synthesisers…the world awaits.” – Hot Press
“ODi is an Irish singer-songwriter who manages to blend elements of Joan Armatrading's pathos, Beth Orton's eye for the quirky and deep with a touch of Dido's bed-sit romance."-Musicreview.com
Already playlisted by Ireland’s RTE Radio 1 and Today FM, ‘A Superman’ is the debut single from Irish singer-songwriter ODi, and precedes the release of her much anticipated debut album ‘Maslow’s Songbook’, due for release in August 2010.
‘A Superman’ was written about a person who puts other people first, someone who is normally seen as a strong figure who others turn to. However, this person is afraid to show their vulnerability and tries to hide it from the world, creating the impression they are invincible. As ODi explains, “It’s about letting that person know you'll be there for them when they need someone to help them.”
Growing up in the rural surroundings of County Wexford, ODi’s Dad ran a recording studio and her Mum, a dance school, “There was always a lot of weird 80’s pop music ringing through the house walls,” she explains “I think that’s why I like experimenting with different sounds, it keeps it interesting!”
After posting some early home recordings on MySpace people started to ask ODi where they could see her play live. Armed with a cheap guitar won on an e-Bay auction, ODi headed to her local venue and blagged her first gig. In the two years since then, ODi has played over 250 shows across Ireland, the UK and Germany, supporting the likes of Tom Baxter, Mick Flannery, Portico Quartet, Paddy Casey, The Four Of Us and Eleanor McEvoy.
In addition, ODi has performed at the Electric Picnic Festival, as well as being personally invited by Seth Lakeman to support him at the Beverley Folk Festival, while the start of the start of year saw ODi tipped as a MySpace/Vodafone “Top 5 Ones To Watch for 2010” by One Republic’s Ryan Tedder.
Having completed an extensive UK tour during March & April 2010, ODi is set to announce a further UK tour in August to support the release of ‘Maslow’s Songbook’, an album that will truly announce ODi as one of Ireland’s finest new singer-songwriting talents.
